In 200 there was 39 hours of investigation
on 9 structure fires. This is an accumulative amount with two or
more of our own investigators possibly on scene. All structure
fires are investigated to determine "cause of origin". Some are more
difficult and surrounding circumstances may call for a more in-depth investigation.
Of the 67
vehicle fires, the largest causes were due to electrical and carburetor
/ fuel system problems. We also interviewed three young people that
parents had brought in for fire personnel to talk to about playing with
fire.
For the past
23 years we have been able to bring fire safety messages to elementary
students in the Carthage R-9 schools. Monthly visits with 4th graders
during the school year and requested classes by other, usually K through
3rd, students have given us a total of 3,165 students visited with some
form of fire safety messages given.
There were
302 tours of the fire station given in the year 2000. Surrounding
schools and various organizations, such as scouts, day care, etc... were
also among those taking tours of our facility.
Participation
in the various food, health, and drug fairs in our community has given
us the opportunity to share fire safety education, through pamphlets, questions,
and answers with adults.
